Danielle Jayne

Danielle Jayne is a local Welsh solo singer, who covers a wide range of music including bilingual Welsh and English speaking. I had a chance to catch up with her to find out more. Here she is in her own words.

What got you in to singing?

"I have sung for many years but no one ever knew about it apart from family and friends. Not even my husband knew the potential because I always joked around. I was always a secret singer ha.

I will never forget my neighbour coming up to me and saying ‘You can sing, I’ve heard you’ when I didn’t really sing in front of people.

I think it was every girl's dream to be a pop star, singing away into a hairbrush. I think I just really connect with music, artists and their storytelling. Music is so powerful.

My mam always tired to get me to sing karaoke and I think it was a confidence thing that just stopped me from perusing it. I always thought she’s my mam, she’s supposed to tell me I’m good and then that became a fear. What if people thought I was crap!!"

Now you've taken part and won Welsh Factor for 2019, how did that come about?

"Ok, as you already know that i was a secret singer but on top of that I suffer a lot with anxiety and I was having a crappy time when I saw this competition online and I basically thought bugger it!

What do I have to lose, what if they don’t like me? Well, they haven’t got to see me again and I haven’t got to see them again and no one would know I had even gone but to my surprise that wasn’t the response at all.

And I still look at it like I did something out of my comfort zone and tried something new-ish that makes me really happy.
Why didn’t I do this sooner. And why let my confidence get in the way."

What sort of songs do you sing when you're gigging?

"I have a mixture of songs, believe it or not. From Welsh bilingual songs - Andra Day - Wheatus - Vanessa Carlton - Pat Benetar. A serious mix of songs.

I am continuously adding new songs to the set list. If anyone had any ideas, feel free to let me know."

Are there any songs that you simply love performing?

"I love performing any song that I can relate to. Here are a few - Dyma Fi, Sefa Da Fi but not only the bilingual songs. I love performing Don’t stop believing,  Teenage Dirtbag. Ohh there are so many to chose from, what I love the most is the feedback from the audience. ❤️!! You know you have a good choice of songs when the audience is singing and dancing with you."

You had a chance to do some recording with Wal, what was that like?

"It was amazing. To work with such a talented guy and have the opportunity to work with someone with so much experience.

When I went to the studio, it was very new. Nerves were kicking in as this person was going to listen to me sing, who has worked with some very talented people!! Aaaaah...!!!

But it was amazing to see the work, time and effort it takes to create tracks.

I love listening back to what I have recorded and see how much I’ve grown and changed vocally. I cannot wait to go back and record a few more.

I have actually started to write my own songs which hopefully I will get to release someday."

Who are your inspirations when it comes to singing?

"Gosh, inspirations. I have loads, my children probably gave me inspiration to just do anything and not be scared of the outcome. I wanted to show them that anything is possible."

What's your set up for live performing?

"I have a great set up thanks to a friend Karl Notts. I bought speakers, mic, mixer to help with my set up. It’s brilliant.

As I am still finding my feet in the music industry, I still take myself very seriously and haven’t quite got the confidence to dance about and let myself go when performing but I suppose it all comes with time and experience."

How important do you think image is when you're singing on stage?

"I do think it’s important to have an image when performing. Because as well as the music the audience relate to you, it’s the first thing they see.

I do think that the songs I have in my set relate to me, my style, personality and my image, hopefully helps me stand out."

If you could have a duet with any other artists, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

"Wwww..... Now this is tough.
It would have to be Beyoncé, Tom Jones, Adele, Justin Bieber and Whitney. But there are so many more to chose from."

Final word: Danielle Jayne takes the mic

"Thanks so much for the opportunity for me to answer these questions. I do have a Facebook page and Instagram page. Check it out and see what I get up to. Exciting things coming up and to look out for."

It was great chatting to Danielle about her music, wishing her all the best for the future.
