See Through Blue album review
Scarlet Rebels are the Llanelli based classic rock band, signed with the record label, Earache records. The band have just released their second album, See Through Blue and I was fortunate enough to be able to listen to it on the day of its release.
First impressions
The second I saw the cover art for this album, I knew instantly that Scarlet Rebel had a message they wanted to deliver to their listeners. The image of a certain politican depicted as a straight up devil is both bold and creative and really sets us up for what this album is going to represent.
The opening track, "I'm Alive" kicks us straight off with a solid guitar riff and upbeat tempo and I was instantly reminded of the classic days of Def Leppard and Bon Jovi.
As the album progresses, the momentum is maintained, each track has been meticulously organised and even slower songs like "I Can Sleep Now" keeps the listener engaged.
Along side the guitar riffs, the brilliant progressions and the beautiful melodies, the lyrics are strong, honest and straight from the heart. "Leave a Light On" absolutely blew me away. A track that builds with each second and really resonated with me emotionally. There's not a single track on the album that isn't without feeling. The blood, sweat and tears that has gone in to each song is evident with its vibrant energy.
In retrospect
The timing of this album dropping lines perfectly with what people are feeling in the wake of the pandemic and the recent deception of politicians at number 10, which again, is beautifully depicted from the cover.
In terms of overall sound, it was refreshing to hear original music that has roots from that classic rock sound. I felt like Scarlet Rebels took all the key components of classic rock and roll, threw them in a blender, added their passion and heart and served us a pure rock and roll album that's relevant.
So pleased to listen to this album and I personally think it could be album of the year for me, but also I think that people will still be talking about this album in 5 or even 10 years time.
The band are available to follow on their Facebook group page here and check them out on Instagram and YouTube
